The new XUV3OO is the newest sub-compact SUV in the segment. It will go up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon. The XUV3OO gets four variants each for petrol and diesel which are W4, W6 W8 and W8 (O). In terms of dimensions, the XUV300 is 3990 mm long, 1820 mm wide and 1620 mm tall. Its wheelbase measured at 2620 mm which gives the largest footprint in the segment. Next, it has a ground clearance of 180 mm which is more than enough for a car to sail over bumps and potholes. Finally, still less than that of rivals like Vitara Brezza, Nexon and EcoSport, have ground clearance of 198 millimetres.

Features:

Mahindra has done well to pack the XUV3OO with features such as dual-zone climate control. Others are memory function, modes for steering feel, tyre pressure monitoring systems, front parking sensors and so on. The W8 and more specifically, W8 (O) which are first-in-class features. Design:

The XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli platform but has been shortened in order to fit in the sub 4-metre bracket. It is still the widest and has the longest wheelbase in the subcompact SUV segment. The design of the Mahindra XUV300 has been inspired by the Cheetah which refers to the front end along with the character lines on the sides of the car in this case. The design of the new XUV300 is edgy and stylish! We like the way the front end looks. The slim grille is accentuated by the LED projector headlamps and daytime running lamps give it a sophisticated look. View it in profile and you see the typical crossover stance. Design:

Moving to its looks, the design and overall silhouette of the Hector are definitely something buyers in this segment will admire. Though MG is historically a British brand, the outline and impression of the Hector are more American. It has a butch looking front which is dominated by a massive black mesh grille with sleek chrome surroundings and MG has adopted the new, in-trend design where the headlamp assembly is mounted in the bumper and the daytime running lights (DRLs) are positioned at the top, close to the hood. The dimensions of the MG Hector SUV are a size plus for its segment and it has the largest footprint in its segment at 2750 mm and it is 4270 mm long, 1835 mm wide and 1760 mm tall. On the inside, it gets an all-black treatment and the upholstery is finished in soft-touch leather which feels good.

Engine:

The diesel variant  powered by the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre engine which churns out 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. It mates to a six-speed manual transmission as standard. The petrol variants will get the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It  develops 141 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. However, MG is also offering 1.5-litre engine with 48 Volt mild hybrid system which mates to six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). A 48-volt lithium-ion battery helps store energy. In addition, it provides 20 Nm of extra torque when required. The combination helps in reducing emissions by 12 percent using three key functions – Engine Auto Start-Stop, Regenerative Braking and E-Boost.

Price: Rs. 9.97 – Rs. 11.57 Lakhs

Its price starts from Rs 9.97 lakh to 11.57 lakh and revised the variant names as well. SUV will primarily come in four variants – S3, S5, S7, and S11. The 2017 Scorpio face lift comes with  noticeable cosmetic updates along with host of new feature additions, made to cabin. The most interesting update made to the engine which now makes about 18 bhp more. Mahindra also introduced a new Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Features:

It comes equipped with dual projector headlamps, new LED parking lights and LED tail lights. SUV have four-spoke power steering that gets audio controls, automatic climate control, front armrests and fabric upholstered seats. Customers also get electrically adjustable ORVMs, follow-me-home headlamps, anti-pinch power windows, charging points. The SUV also comes with rain and light sensors and is available in four colour options.

Exteriors:

The model introduced in all-new avatar in 2014 and received modern touches including new LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The grille is more upright and looks bolder than ever. The bonnet is now flatter and wider in stance and gets masculine lines for that butch appeal. It added new flared wheel arches and supporting lines on the sides. A black garnish rests on tailgate that  holds number plate with D-shaped LED tail lights are distinctive. The 17-inch alloy wheels on the Scorpio complement the design well.

Interiors:

It massively improved the cabin on the new Scorpio when the current generation version arrived. The utilitarian look made way for a more premium version including a dual-tone colour scheme. The dashboard is less busy and the layout isn’t the best on offer. The centre console looks particularly dated and is need of an update expected to come soon. SUV offers enough room to passengers seated inside. There are practical storage points as well across the cabin, but you do wish for a more premium cabin overall.

It powered the same tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. But oil burner comes in two states of tune – the existing 120 bhp version and  tuned 138 bhp version. The former version develops 280 Nm of peak torque, while the more powerful version develops 320 Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox handles the transmission duties as standard. There is an automatic option as well, which uses the same 6-speed torque converter that does duty on the XUV500. The base mode S3, on the other hand, gets the older m2DICR engine that makes 75 bhp. Mahindra claims that it improved the NVH levels on the Scorpio. In contrast, SUV now comes with new 6th generation Borg Warner Turbo Charger and 9.1 Bosch ABS.

Price: Rs. 28.19– Rs. 32.97 Lakhs

Ford introduced the updated Endeavour in India and prices start from Rs. 28.19 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 32.97 lakh. The facelift gives the Endeavour the much needed updates and the new look suits the big, muscular car. The new design on front bumper enhances its rugged looks and chrome plated bold trapezoidal grille makes it stand out in the crowd. Both rear and front bumpers have integrated skid plates to protect the car’s underbody even in extreme off-road conditions.

Features:

The design 18- inch alloy wheels don’t just add to Endeavour’s good looks but ensure excellent grip and handling. The ORVMs feature puddle lamps make easier for drivers to get in and out of the vehicle. The SUV is available with two diesel powertrains – the tried and tested 2.2-litre and 3.2 litre. To keep things simple and interesting, Ford is now offering the Endeavour in only two variants – Titanium and Titanium+.

Engine:

While the former gets the smaller 2.2-litre engine mate to a 6- speed manual gearbox as standard. Titanium+ trim comes with – 2.2-litre engine and 3.2-litre motor paired with 6- speed automatic transmission as standard. With the introduction of a manual transmission, the 2.2-litre engine will deliver 14.2 kmpl. The automatic will deliver 12.62 kmpl. The 2.2-litre engine makes the same 158 bhp and 358 Nm of peak torque and only gets 4×2. While the 3.2-litre engine offers 197 bhp and 470 Nm of peak torque and only comes in 4×4 option.

Price: Rs. 31.01 Lakhs & above

Firstly, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced the launch of Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo in India and price is Rs 31.01 lakh. It is available in 4x2AT variant and designed and developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD). The Fortuner TRD Sportivo has undergone a series of cosmetic changes while continuing with the same mechanics under the hood.

Features:

Features such as LED projector head-lamps with dusk sensing and auto levelling, LED DRLs, home headlamps, front fog lamps. It gets SMART entry and push start/stop, entry system with puddle lamps on ORVMs, alloy wheels, chrome plated door handles. It also gets LED rear combination lamps, power-operated retractable side mirrors with side turn indicators. Fully automatic power back door with height adjust memory and jam protection. Features inside the cabin are as new premium leather upholstery, large TFT multi-information display, tilt & telescopic steering wheel.

Exterior:

It looks spectacular sporting edgy design with sleek pulled-back headlamps, dual-slat chrome grille with v-shaped chrome surrounding, LED DRLs, etc. The high shoulder line, flared wheel arches and 12-spoke alloy wheels reinforce the butch stance. Rear end designed in tandem with the front and side profile. As it looks equally stylish sporting wrap-around LED tail-lamps and new integrated spoiler.

Interior:

Toyota has no change to the wheelbase which still measures around 2745mm. But length and width alters allows more space inside for occupants and third row is more suitable for kids. There are multiple practical storage points in the cabin like cup holders, bottle holders, glove-box etc. And for luggage storage space, it can expand by folding third row and provides clear visibility to occupants. The cabin gets some bits like splash of leather around steering wheel, restyled dashboard with chrome accent, touchscreen infotainment system.

Engine:

The Fortuner replaces previous engines for more powerful units that claims to deliver improved performance. Then it replaces 3.0 litre diesel powertrain and gets new 2.8 litre. DOHC engine with four cylinders that makes 174.5bhp at 3400rpm and 420Nm of torque between 1600 to 2400rpm. The petrol power variants is the 2.7 litre, four cylinder in-linemill good for 164bhp at 5200rpm and 245Nm at 4000rpm. The diesel motor is available with a choice of 6-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission. Petrol engine linked to a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic unit with paddle shift and shift-lock. In conclusion, 2WD drivetrain is standard and there is also an option for a 4WD system and selects diesel variants.
